Guests of all ages will enjoy the town’s picturesque Riverfront, featuring an outdoor fireplace, two 600-foot-long ziplines that soar over the river, and the lighted Iron Bridge, the centerpiece of the award-winning Riverfront. Built originally in 1886, the bridge now shines in a beautiful LED light display every night over the shimmering river. For those who want to explore the downtown river waters first hand, the riverfront also features a canoe and kayak launch.

Allegan has a lot to experience including specialty stores and boutiques, bars and grills, a coffeehouse, two breweries, and the Regent Theatre, a historic one-screen movie theater showing first-run and limited-time movies seven days a week.

Experience live music all summer long with concerts every Friday evening, June through August, at Rollin’ on the River, a high-octane concert series that is free to all with food and adult beverages available for purchase. Good Times at the Gazebo is a long-celebrated Saturday night concert series held in Mahan Park on Saturdays in July and August. The free series offers a quieter counterpart to Rollin’ on the River by featuring acoustic, folk, country, jazz, and blues acts to get your toes tapping.

Allegan is home to 10 parks that vary from a vibrant 63-acre sports complex to a peaceful pocket park that enhances the beauty of its surroundings. The city’s placement along the river makes it a prime location for water enthusiasts to portage their canoes and kayaks for a truly unique exploration of the winding waterway. Allegan parks have been designed with both visitors and residents in mind, offering something for everyone and a variety of activities for all ages. Whether it be taking on the Allegan Mountain Bike Trail, grinding a rail at the skate park or tossing discs at the disc golf course in Jaycee Park, challenging your group to a game of pickle ball, or meditating in the labyrinth, there is no shortage of activity in the City of Allegan.

Home to the Old Iron Bridge, constructed in 1886 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the City of Allegan celebrates the bridge’s history at Bridgefest every second Saturday in June. The bridge and its historical backdrop is a festive setting for activities for kids and adults, including music and entertainment, food and beverages, fireworks, and more.

For less than $5 a ticket, don’t miss the historic Regent Theatre. Constructed 100 years ago in 1919, the one-screen, Art Deco movie theater now features first-run, new release films every day of the week. The Regent Theatre is a unique movie going experience with a glittering neon marquee that beckons casual moviegoers and cinephiles alike to enter its beautifully restored interior. If that weren’t enough to entice you, the Regent is also renowned for its delicious popcorn.

The 600-seat Griswold Auditorium is Allegan's finest example of community pride. Its stage is lit up under the words of William Shakespeare; “All The World’s A Stage,” and the interior looks much the same as it did when it was erected in 1929  -- the dark wood moldings, open floor plans, and numerous multi-pane windows reflect the classic Arts & Crafts or Craftsman architecture. The building serves as the home of Michigan’s oldest theatre company, the Allegan Community Players, and hosts multiple weddings, musicals, plays, live concerts, and other programs throughout the calendar year.

For history buffs, the free Allegan County Old Jail Museum is a one-of-a-kind experience. It served as the jail and sheriff’s residence for over 5 decades until 1963 and features over 10,000 Allegan County artifacts and a glimpse into Allegan County’s past.

The start of fall is marked by the renowned Allegan County Fair held at the Allegan County Fairgrounds since 1852. One of the largest in the state, USA Today named it the most popular county fair in Michigan. In addition, the fairgrounds hosts the nationally recognized Allegan Antique Market that takes place every last Sunday of April through September. Antiques Magazine rates the Allegan Antiques Market as “One of the Ten Best Shows in America,” due to its amazingly large diversity of quality merchandise and knowledgeable exhibitors – more than 400 – who blanket the fairgrounds 115 acres.

Wintertime in Allegan is a postcard perfect scene. The holiday décor that illuminates the Downtown is an always-spectacular sight that inspires a winter evening stroll. In December, enjoy Allegan’s Festive Fridays celebration every Friday before Christmas, where you can delight in extended shopping hours, dining opportunities, a holiday parade of lights, and free family activities like horse drawn wagon rides, hot chocolate tents, and visits with Santa.

Before the year comes to an end, Downtown Allegan goes out with a bang with their New Year’s Eve NYE! celebration. Boasting Michigan’s largest New Year’s Eve ball drop, the gargantuan globe measures 10’6” and is decorated in 30,000 LED lights. The outdoor celebration includes massive fire pits, food trucks, hot drinks, live music, ziplining over the Kalamazoo River, and culminates with the ball drop from the 60’ zipline tower and a brilliant fireworks show.
